Taste the difference that soil makes!
When we purchased the property in 2005, we knew we had two distinct soil types underneath our feet - silty alluvial deposits and silicate-heavy sandy soils. We wanted to see how that would define the character of our wines, and we chose merlot to help us showcase this.
The alluvial blocks are characteristic of our immediate area - silty and chunky material, as well as organics wash down from the watersheds above. This moisture-retentive soil create a shallow and dense root system, give us a Merlot with a more fruit forward style, and a more exuberant profile, expressed in our Alluvia bottling. Just steps away, the lighter, well-drained sandy soils nurture a brighter, more lifted style of Merlot, with deeper tannins and complexity, displayed in our Silica release.
By crafting these wines separately and keeping them unfiltered, we celebrate the true expression of our terroir—two soils, one varietal, and distinctly different personalities. The signature part of our tasting experience is a side-by-side look at the differences created by the unique geology of our estate. Visit our tasting room to experience these beautiful wines.
